Made you look

So at the suggestion of our tutor, i took a trip to the local indie cinema with a few others from the class a few days ago. Ive taken a bit of time to mull the film over and come to a conclusion on its message, and well, i'm not really a fan. The movies subtitle, as can be seen on the poster is "A film about creativity in the digital age", paired with imagery of methods of analogue creation, to me would suggest contemporaries within the field utilising a mixture of the two methods. But instead it seemed that the artists featured were collectively shitting themselves over the big bad photoshop. It was quite frustrating, obviously being younger than these artists and having digital means of creation present through most of my time as a creative, it just seems a bit petty, god forbid there be a new-ish but not really method of creation. It comes down to the opinion that it is either somehow cheating because some things are easier to accomplish than with analogue. Or they simply suggest that it looks bad. Being honest, if digital creation is cheating, then by that rationale using store bought tubes of paint is cheating because its easier than back in the day when people used to mix their own pigment, resin etc.. And of course theres shitty digital art, every medium can look bad in unpracticed hands, if this is seriously your opinion stop using the work of amateurs as your point of reference. Of course photoshop has shortcoming, but there are positives too. Made you look was quite a close minded little film.

Now its not all doom and gloom, although the film only featured artists that create analogue imagery, the personalities they had on display were varied and all had very different approaches to their work, so its always great to find out about new artists and their methods. And also it was an opportunity to meet some others in my course, good times.

Film is still a bit pants though....
