In order to know who to contact, we clearly needed to research different practitioners. From this we had to present to the class our findings and the person we decided to contact.
The first slide covered myself as a practitioner, mainly speaking of my aspirations as a storyteller, and more specifically comics.
Moving on to a list of ten practitioners I had in mind, only going in to detail for the few I was really considering. In order from left to right we have:
- Eric Stephenson, the director of image comics, also written his own series. Could offer business and creative insights towards the industry
- Caspar Wijngarrd, creates comics for image, could offer insights towards process and seems pretty open, considering I spoke to him at thought bubble.
- Josan Gonzales, Illustrates a sci-fi world in scenes, I would talk to him about world building, and capturing interest in a world/ concept.
Outside of these three mains were:
- Emily Carroll
- Alan Mckenzie
- Luke Jackobs
- Emma O' Donovan
- Benjamin Cox
- Dilraj Mann
- Folio Agency
I came to the conclusion that Eric Stephenson was the best choice for my contact. Outside of the two heavy hitters in comics, Image are by far the most successful, and I feel this means they have possibly the best insight to the industry as a whole, working outside of super heroes. They also seem to be the most beneficial for creators because the creators of the comics retain all copyright to the ideas and characters etc, the company publishes the work.
Outside of the company, Stephenson himself has a great deal to offer. Not only is he a publisher, but has also created two of his own comic series, so Id be able to gain insights towards the company practice, and creative process advice.
