Comic fair

We were given the opportunity to set up shop at a comic fair, free of charge, which I felt would be silly to miss. There was only one real problem with this, Im not really a fan artist/ poster maker, so I wouldn't have a great deal of single things to sell. On top of that, my ventures in to working with comic and narrative Only started recently, and deal with more long form Ideas that you cant really sell in a single issue at a fair... This made me feel the need to create a new zine thingy. And that I did, for a show I quite enjoyed called the mighty boosh. It features a lot of weirdness, the characters being the prime example, so I had some fun making some character portraits, mixing the visual style for each image. This I feel gives the book a feeling of variation with its imagery.

Being short of time, I really could only squeeze in some business card creation after making the zine. This was simple enough, utilising my "Logo" as a cutout, placing one of my artworks behind it. The main thing I had to ensure I put on the card was a means of contacting me.

With that, I re surfaced some old works that seem somewhat appropriate for the occasion, being a Utopia fan poster, and my George Orwell book from 504.

I shared a table with Isaac and Kyle, and I must say we were so well organised for this, quite proud of how we came together. I had more than enough work to sell also, having spent around £30 on printing costs.

Things all set up well, and starting out, the day was really exciting. But things didn't quite work out. It became quite apparent that they weren't the audience looking for prints and artwork, being more of a classic comics audience. The other room was constantly filled, whereas ours hardly got a sniff. It was a hard day for everyone, I only know one person that made their print money back, never mind a profit. Granted, it was still a valuable experience, and the work printed can always be taken to separate events.
