Hanbury hall: Presenting and meeting professionals

It all paid off, the research and prep from everybody made for a very successful night. Heres the info and experience I got from the event:

Presenting:

I presented for two pannels, the first and the last, a surprisingly enjoyable experience. Doing the research and question creation for the first offered great satisfaction when everything went according to plan and the guest's also seemed comfortable. The second was somehow more nerve racking, even though it ran just as smoothly, possibly even more than the first. I think this may be the control freak in me, not having handled the research for this one. That and the position I was sat in was better lit, maybe it was a psychological thing.

One main take away I took from presenting itself was that it was reassuring to have someone to work with and bounce off of questioning also. Having a partner made it all far less daunting.

Information:

- Social media seems to be of great importance in the industry, with artists found on the platforms, and follow numbers influencing wether artists are hired.
-Although you can follow trends, that may help to boost interest in your work, the guests were all adamant that a unique tone and personality to your work is what will get you hired.
- Animation is coming up big in illustration. With the internet becoming the main platform for sharing content, the ability for your work to move apparently helps to draw attention.
- It is important and healthy to maintain personal projects, in order to advance your own quality of work, and also possibly bring new ideas to your clients/ companies.

It is worth noting how easy to talk to the professionals were, especially outside of being on and off the stage, very forthcoming and willing to answer questions. Its a little reminder that these guys are human too, I should'nt be scared to reach out.
